Brett Favre Retires
After 17 years Brett Favre retires, no really. I hate to say it, but the first thing that comes to my mind is that I am old. I clearly remember when Brett Favre came into the NFL as an Atlanta Falcon. And think about that, after one year in Atlanta they traded Brett Favre to the Green Bay Packers for a 17th round pick, can you say OOPS.
Being a Dallas Cowboy fan it is pretty obvious that I am not a Green Bay Packer fan, however, if there is one guy I really respect in Pro sports, it is Brett [...]
Dallas Cowboys vs Green Bay Packers
I was a little ticked off tonight when I realized the my beloved Dallas Cowboys game against the Green Bay Packers, which is probably one of the best games this year, is only being telecast on the NFL Network. Holy Moly. What a bunch of crap. Now with this said, I was not so upset when I found out I could call Comcast and have the NFL Network and NFL HD Network added for only $5 a month.
But I know this is not available to a lot of viewers out there. It seems that we are now at the mercy [...]
NFL Football in 2007
When I was a kid, this was probably the most anticipated weekend of the year for me. I was a major NFL fan. Even as late as 10 years ago I was still a pretty big fan. I moved to Mississippi in 1997 and immediately bought Direct TV just so I could watch the Dallas Cowboys.
Now I watch some, but it is hard for me to be a real fan. Between free agency and players changing teams as often as their clothes and all the individual focuses of achievements it has lost it’s luster.
Football is a team sport, [...]
End of Summer
With the Labor Day holiday behind us, we can consider summer over, yeah!!
Kids are back in school and there are a lot of things to look forward to. Labor Day signifies a lot of things for me. I know that next weekend will start the NFL Football season and give us some more quality sports to watch, along with a little Fantasy Football.
The biggest thing I look forward to is some cooler weather. Having spent most my life in South Texas and the last 10 years in Mississippi I have a real love for fall. Summer is always great when [...]
Interesting Sports Day
Yesterday, Saturday August 4th, 2007 was a very interesting day in sports.
Baseball - Barry Bonds hit # 755 to tie Hank Aaron’s career home run record, a record that a lot of people thought would stand for a lot longer time than it did.
Football - The NFL Hall of Fame inducted 7 new members. Michael Irvin, Thurman Thomas, Bruce Matthews, Gene Hickerson, Charlie Sanders and Roger Wehrli. The highlight had to be Michael Irvin’s speech. Michael seems to have realized the importance of God and family after a rocky end to his career and what he said will certainly be [...]
Eddie Robinson
Ex-Grambling coach Eddie Robinson died at the age of 88 in Monroe, LA.
He’s noted for sending more than 200 players to NFL.
Dallas Cowboys clinch Playoff berth !
Thanks to Tony Romo and Marion Barber III I have a reason to watch NFL football for the rest of the year (while I wait for Nascar to start up again!). Although I will admit that I would keep watching the New Orleans Saints too !
Being a Drew Bledsoe fan the move to Romo was hard to watch at first, but, this kid looks like the real deal. And Marion Barber has certainly been playing at a top notch level.
Go Dallas Cowboys !
Paraskavedekatriaphobia
It’s Friday the 13th, the one day of the year where Paraskavedekatriaphobia can cause people all kinds of problems and stress.
I saw the original Friday The 13th movie at the Drive In Theater in 1980. I wonder how much influence these movies have had on the naming and diagnosing of Paraskavedekatriaphobia? And why is there a term for this, but, not the fear of Halloween.
I will say the original Halloween movie made more of an impression on me, but, that could be because I was 17 and Jamie Lee Curtis was the main character, Laurie Strode. Now if that character [...]
Addidas and Reggie Bush know how to advertise.
Reggie Bush got some extra headlines this week for the $10,000 fine levied on him by the NFL for wearing Addidas cleats in last weeks pre season game.Just goes to show that Addidas may have figured out what The Golden Palace casino learned a long time ago. A different way to advertise.
The NFL only allows players to wear Nike or Reebok shoes during games. So how is another shoe company supposed to make good on endorsements it has with football players? Simple, have them wear your shoes and pay the fine.
Basically Addidas just paid $10,000 for a whole lot of [...]
Matt Leinart finally signed
The first-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals signed a six-year contract.Out of 255 players taken in this years NFL Draft, Leinhart was the last to agree to a contract. Financial terms were not disclosed, but you can be assured it was way too much. ESPN reported that the contract was worth a max of $50 million, yes, $50 million. When the 10th overall pick and the second quarterback taken is worth $50 million there is something out of whack. No wonder the average family can not afford to go to a football game. And how does the 10th pick get almost [...]
